Careers: S4 Work of Work Week

Careers: S4 Work of Work Week

At St Aloysius' College, we provide our young people with an introduction to the world of work that allows them to explore their future careers in a variety of different industries.

Before the end of term, S4 took part in our World of Work Week - which offered experiences to help our Seniors kickstart their future careers, complete with talks from OAs and placements in exciting industries, ranging from the creative sector to information technology.

A group of pupils visited the world’s number 1 PC manufacturer, Lenovo, at their local Glasgow site. Throughout the day, we heard from many people at the company, who held roles ranging from entry-level to executive – which helped us get an idea of how a career path in the industry might work. It was interesting to see how the company works from many different perspectives, and we even got to visit one of their computer labs to see all of the work that goes on behind the scenes. Read more about our visit here.

Many of our pupils were out on their dream placements including Amelie M. who got to shadow GP (and former pupil) Dr. Martin Orr. Tomek C. spent his work experience at Regis Banqueting in Cumbernauld, where he got to see how the catering industry works behind the scenes.

Christopher R. had a very exciting placement at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Wallace Studios – located not too far from our College. Christopher worked on many exciting projects – including on the set of a short film being made by students at the Conservatoire. Back at the studio, Christopher lend his hand to other activities such as prop making.

Back at school, our careers department had prepared many talks and workshops for our pupils, who will very soon be looking at their university subject choices. We were delighted to welcome back recent OAs from the class of 2022, who were delighted to share some insight with us about their experience after leaving the College, and offered some advice about university choices.

Our Careers department is focused on providing opportunities for our young people that allow them to discern their future careers – as well as providing them the chance to get out into the world of work. We can’t wait to see what comes next for everyone!
