Celebrating STEM Success

Celebrating STEM Success

Over the summer holidays our STEM students have been hard at work – and we thought we would share some of their successes with you!

Four computing students (Jamie S5, Malik S5, Michela S5 and Scarlett (OA ‘21) participated in JP Morgan’s Virtual Work Experience Programme. Over a week, they participated in seminars and case studies and, working in a group, had to develop and present a solution to solve the phased return of employees as offices start to reopen.

Well done to these pupils on giving up their own time during the summer holidays to learn more about computing science and the world of work.

Congratulations to Orla S2 and Alice S3 who, just at the end of term, received a set of airpods each as they were 2 of the 3 winners of the International Women's Day coding competition. The students created an animation of a famous female computing scientist. Orla chose Ada Lovelace and said “I felt that women were underrepresented in technology and wanted to show that women can do what men can do”.

In June, six S4 and six S5 pupils participated in JP Morgan’s Generation Tech event. The S5 team, Michela, Hannah, Laura, Kitty, Maddie and Gabrielle, designed a website and game to inform, educate and entertain young people about the importance of protecting our oceans.

The S4 team, Isabella, Damita, Katherine, Katie, Annabel and Niamh - designed an educational website with resources, messaging wall, class chat, quizzes, videos and feedback. They did really well in their first time participating in the competition.

Both teams displayed great teamwork, confident presentation skills and amazing technical knowledge. We were delighted that the S5 team won the competition and the 6 girls each received an iPad, Apple Watch or Nintendo Switch.
