Juniors get Creative with Great Aloysian Mask Off

The Eco Committee of St Aloysius’ College Junior School teamed up with the Art Department to organise a Halloween Mask making competition, giving young Aloysians the opportunity to develop their creative talents whilst learning about the importance and usefulness of recycling.

Affectionately titled ‘The Great Aloysian Mask Off‘, the Eco Committee’s Halloween mask making competition called on P4 – P7 pupils to create masks with imaginative and unique designs, made entirely of natural or recycled materials.

The creative Aloysians were given 3 weeks to work on their masks at home after school and the response from the pupils was, in words their Art Teacher Mrs Ellis, “immense”, with over 160 masterpieces entered for judging.

A winner and runner-up was selected from the entries of each year group by members of staff from around the College and the prize winners were awarded with £20 and £5 gift cards for WHSmith.

Mrs Ellis said the judges had a very difficult time selecting winners from so many strong entries and was full of praise for the attitude shown by her pupils.

 “The children tackled this competition with great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed coming up with their wonderful designs. As ever I was delighted to see all of their creativity.”
