St Aloysius’ College is delighted to officially announce the appointment of Mr Séamus Scorgie as its next Principal. Mr Scorgie will join the College in Summer 2025, bringing with him more than 20 years of senior leadership experience in Catholic education.
Currently Executive Deputy Principal at De La Salle College in Melbourne, Australia, Mr Scorgie has held leadership positions at several of Melbourne’s most respected schools. His professional journey reflects a deep commitment to academic excellence, educational innovation, and the formation of young people grounded in character and compassion.
In speaking about his appointment, Mr Scorgie said:
“I’m truly honoured to be joining St Aloysius’ College. What really resonates with me is the College’s dedication to developing bright, well-rounded, and empathetic young people through academic excellence. This perfectly matches my own approach to education.”
Mr Scorgie holds an Executive MBA from Australian Catholic University and a Master of Education in Educational Management from the University of Melbourne. He was himself educated in the Jesuit tradition and places cura personalis - care for the whole person - at the centre of his leadership philosophy.
“Getting to know every student, staff member, and family is a priority for me,” he said. “I believe in being a visible and accessible leader who listens to everyone’s ideas and concerns. This personal approach – caring for each individual – is at the heart of what makes St Aloysius special and reflects the Jesuit values that underpin the College’s mission.”
Mr Scorgie’s connection to Scotland is a personal one, too. His great-great-grandfather left Aberdeen in 1863, beginning a family journey that would take future generations to New Zealand and then Australia. Now, Séamus and his family will return to Scotland, completing that journey full circle. His wife and four children will move with him to Glasgow later this year, with all four children set to enrol at St Aloysius’ College.
Chair of the Board of Governors, Isabelle Cullen, commented:
“After an extensive recruitment process, we are delighted to welcome Séamus Scorgie as our new Principal. His proven track record in educational leadership, combined with his innovative and values-driven approach to learning, makes him the ideal person to lead St Aloysius’ College into its next chapter.”
The College also extends its sincere gratitude to Mr Michael Burrowes, who will continue to serve as Interim Head Teacher until Mr Scorgie formally takes up the post in August 2025. His steadfast leadership and dedication are deeply appreciated by the whole College community.
We look forward to welcoming Mr Scorgie and his family to Glasgow, and to this next exciting chapter in the life of the College.
