Home From Home - The Story of the Play

Home From Home - The Story of the Play

Many of our young people at St Aloysius' College volunteer at the local ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) class which is held in St Aloysius' Church's Ogilvie Centre. We've heard many things about our young people's experience as volunteers and the different ways in which they have been able to offer their support through their Caritas class. Perhaps one of the most important projects our young people have worked on was bringing together the play Home from Home earlier this year. The project saw some of our Senior School Drama pupils collaborate with students from the ESOL class to bring their stories as refugees and asylum seekers to a stage where they could be told.

All of the students from the ESOL class now call Glasgow their home, and we hope we have been able to welcome them to our city. The one-night-only performance struck the audience with its emotion and retelling of real-life stories. Our pupils and the ESOL students didn't have much time to prepare, but they managed to deliver an impactful drama piece, the story of which has been included in this new short documentary by the St Aloysius' Church ESOL School. Our pupils and Head of Drama Miss. Singh feature to show how the play went from rehearsals to the final product, showing all of the behind-the-scenes workings of the important piece.
