Since 1967, International Literacy Day has been a global, annual reminder of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. This year, the theme is ‘Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide.’
Fittingly, today we kicked off our first meeting of Book Club in the Senior School by exploring our new Digital Library and selecting our first novel to read together: The Infinite, by Patience Agbabi. This book has been shortlisted for the Scottish Teenage Book Prize and touches on themes such as environmentalism and personal differences... and time travel!
This is our little way of celebrating International Literacy Day, and we are looking forward to discovering more together throughout the year.
