Alexander Früh at the SQA Star Awards
It was all lights, cameras, smoke and action for the annual Scottish educational Oscars ceremony, otherwise known as the ‘SQA Star Awards’. OA Alexander Früh accompanied by his mum and dad, and Dr Kilgour from our Mathematics Department travelled through to Edinburgh for the awards ceremony last Friday. Our host for the evening was the BBC radio presenter Kaye Adams and we were addressed by John Swinney MSP (Cabinet Secretary for Education).
Alexander was shortlisted as one of the top three pupils in Scotland by SQA and nominated for the SQA ‘Academic Excellence Award’. It was a huge achievement for a fantastic scholar.
We had already met one of the other nominees, Elle Wyatt from the High School of Dundee, at the awards ceremony for achieving 100% in Advanced Higher Mathematics. The third nominee was Jamie Clarkson from James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh. Perhaps unsurprisingly, all three pupils are off to the University of Cambridge to commence their undergraduate studies.
Alexander was marginally pipped at the winning post by Elle Wyatt and we all offered our warmest congratulations to her family.
A late night trip back to Glasgow on the 11pm train revealed that a silver-paper wrapped box was in fact not a box of Milk Tray but an iPad Mini! One last final surprise to end a splendid evening.
Our congratulations, once again, go to Alexander for achieving so much in his time at the College.
