On Thursday 3 November at 7 pm, Fr Rodolfo Cardenal SJ will be giving the 2016 Archbishop Romero Lecture. This event is organised by the Romero Trust and is co-hosted by the College’s Centre for Social and Environmental Justice, SCIAF, St Aloysius Parish and Pax Christi. The lecture is entitled Rutilio, Romero and Pope Francis. In this the centenary of Archbishop Romero’s birth, this is an exciting opportunity to learn more about Romero, his times, people who influenced him and those who he in turn has influenced. Fr Cardenal is a Central American Jesuit and Director of the Monseñor Romero Centre at the UCA, the Jesuit University in El Salvador. He is a surviving colleague of the six Jesuit martyrs killed on the UCA campus in 1989 at the height of El Salvador's civil war. He is a historian and has written the biography of his Jesuit colleague, Fr Rutilio Grande, assassinated in March 1977 and now on the road to beatification. Rodolfo chairs the History Commission which is documenting Rutilio's story for the beatification cause.
