Mental Health Awareness Workshop

Mental Health Awareness Workshop

Mental health is one of the most important, yet often overlooked, aspects of our lives. In recent years the stigma around mental health (particularly surrounding young people and in school) has been significantly tackled – however, there is still lots of work to be done to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.

That’s why our Equalities Group were delighted to take part in the Mental Health Foundation’s workshop, which is being used as a way to gather feedback and ideas for educational resources to support their Mental Health Week initiative later this year.

Joining up via teams, we began our session with some mindfulness – to help clear our heads and thoughts and to help us focus on what was around us. The topic of this year’s Mental Health Week is loneliness, and we were asked of different ways in which we can connect with others, and ultimately connect with ourselves.

Our feedback and ideas, all suggested by our Equalities Group, will go towards resources for schools to help them better communicate the message of Mental Health Week. This will take the form of lessons for children across the country to try and help them tackle loneliness.

We are very thankful to have been able to take part in this workshop – and look forward to raising awareness for Mental Health Week this May.

Mr. Masterson, Head of PSHE, added: “Our S1 pupils gave some amazing insights and ideas and the workshop coordinator told us this was the best session they had run! We look forward to MHAW in May to see how our input has perhaps shaped the campaign. Well done to all those who took part and thanks to Mrs. Freer for arranging for the Equalities Group to take part in this workshop.”
