Oliver Skates for Scotland

Congratulations to Oliver King (S1) who represented Scotland Ice Hockey in a tournament held in Dundee earlier this month. This was a really special occasion for Oliver, who has been trying out for the Scotland team for the past three years. Oliver should be congratulated for showing real perseverance, which was rewarded by his place this season on the Scotland Select Team.

Oliver has been playing Ice Hockey since he was eight, following in the footsteps of his dad, who was a professional player for the Dumfries and Paisley Pirates. Three years ago, Oliver’s dad started a team in Coatbridge, ‘Lanarkshire Lightning’, for young players located in Glasgow and Lanarkshire. Oliver has captained the team ever since, and has led it to steadily climb the league table. It now sits 6th in a league which includes well-established teams from across Scotland.

As a forward, Oliver is the goal scorer for his team. Speaking to his mum, Kellie, she recounted his impressive performance at the Belfast Arena, where he scored the winning goal against the Northern Irish team in dauntingly professional arena.

We wish Oliver the best of luck in his future matches for both Lanarkshire Lightning and the Scotland Select Team.
