Primary 5 were treated to Drama Day in our new Performing Arts Centre, where they spent time outwith their usual class to have a deep-dive into the subject, with various workshops and performances taking place throughout the day.
Led by our Head of Drama, Mr. McHugh, Drama Day began with an exercise in active listening, and we learned to engage in the conversations of others not by talking but by carefully hearing that they had to say – a key component of any piece of drama.
Next on the bill was everyone’s favourite – improv! Guaranteed to be a good time, this again require us to use our listening skills to make a concise story that was in line with those we were working with. We then made exciting tableaux and worked on our own short pieces that followed a theme.
After lunch followed lots more activities -including an exercise where we painted to music and discussed our artworks afterwards, which led nicely into us creating our own storyboard for three short scenes involving props.
At the end of the day, everyone went home feeling very creative and inspired. It was great to spend the day in our Performing Arts Centre – which is currently a very busy place due to rehearsals for our Junior School show!
