S2 Becomes Published Author

Isla H. (S2) recently received the news that her poem will be published as it was selected from thousands of entries to be part of the upcoming Power of Poetry book, comprised of original works from young adult authors. Of this amazing achievement, Isla said:

“I feel that my poem is describing an unusual topic, and as it is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, there is a somewhat dark meaning to it. There are connotations of losing or letting go of something within the poem, this allows a variety of readers to think of their own experiences, relating to this poem. I like thinking outside of the box and that is why I am thrilled for many to read my poetry. It is still unbelievable to think about, but I would like others to get a sense of what edgy poetry is like. I was also inspired by my English teacher, throughout this school year, to express myself in a creative way.”

Isla's English teacher, Dr. Simpson, added: "I’m really pleased for Isla. It’s very brave to submit a piece of your own poetry to a national competition! Her poem is unique and thought-provoking, and shows her true talent with words. I hope to read more of Isla’s work as she goes into S3 and beyond."

The Power of Poetry will be released this upcoming April. We can't wait to see what is next from Isla's brilliant mind!
