Sisters outstanding fundraising efforts raise over £5000 for charity

At the start of Lent, Isabella and Jessica McG watched an uplifting episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, featuring Ethiopia. The episode was filled with hope as it outlined a couple from Ethiopia who had overcome all odds to be successful in the USA and now supporting their families and local communities back home.  After watching this programme, Isabella and Jessica came up with the idea of a challenge to raise funds to help Marys Meals in Ethiopia.

They set a challenge of running 140km each over 40 days (coinciding with Lent), and started at 1.5km for the first five days, before upping their km by 0.5km each day thereafter. For the last five days, they have run 5k each day for 5 days.  Despite a few injuries along the way, unfavourable weather and tired legs they showed great determination to complete their challenge, and powered  on, with the support of their parents, family, and friends.

The girls target was originally £500, but after advertising their challenge on social media they were blown away by the amazing support from family and friends, and managed to raise £5,200 for Marys Meals. For their outstanding efforts, Marys Meals have invited them to take part in their family hour which streams across the world highlighting their amazing achievement.

Well done girls, we are so proud of you both!
