On Wednesday 4th October the St Aloysius' Hockey Team 1st XI were crowned champions of the West District Senior Tournament, marking the first win at the tournament for the College in over 20 years.
Going in as the underdogs, our girls played some fantastic hockey to reach the final. A 0-0 draw against Craigholme School and a 2-0 loss against High School of Glasgow led to a brilliant comeback game against Kelvinside Academy, winning 2-0.
A semi-final win against Hutchesons' Grammar School on penalties (5-4) led to a nail-biting final against High School of Glasgow, with St Aloysius' taking the win and tournament with a final score of 1-0.
Team Captain Lara Monaghan (S6) said of the win, "I'm really proud of the team and the performance" with Vice-Captain Sarah Kelly adding, "We're just glad we could show everyone what we can do and have hopefully set a standard for the rest of the season".
The girls' next game is on Saturday 7th October against Kelvinside Academy and they are also competing in the BP cup where they have got off to a flying start beating Lomond School 5-2.
Congratulations to the team and best of luck for the forthcoming season!
