Young Aloysians Lead by Example in Scottish Schools Climbing Competition
A trio of young Aloysian climbers scaled the rankings in the Scottish Schools Climbing Competition last month, with two first places and a third in the event, supported by Glasgow Climbing Centre.
Brother and Sister duo Daniel and Hannah Smith both achieved first places in their respective age categories, while Lucy McKenna came third in the final. The College had the highest number of pupils through to the final from any one school.
The competition, initiated by the College in 2009 with the support of Glasgow Climbing Centre, has gone from strength to strength in its seven years. Now officially recognised by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland as a national youth competition, 2016 saw the handover and organisation of the competition to Climb Scotland. Born from an idea of former pupil, Peter Johnstone OA, the event has been nurtured into a fantastic and inclusive Scottish event - having grown from ten competing schools to over 100 - including one from Orkney.
