Scottish Young Musicians Independent Schools Solo Performer of the Year

Outstanding Young Talent on Show at Scottish Young Musicians Final Hosted at the College

St Aloysius’ College was proud to host the final of the Scottish Young Musicians Independent Schools Solo Performer of the Year competition on Sunday afternoon in the College Hall. It was an extraordinary afternoon of music, showcasing the breadth and depth of talent among young musicians from across Scotland.

The audience was treated to a remarkably diverse programme, ranging from traditional Scottish music to Beethoven—and even Slipknot—demonstrating both the versatility and passion of the performers.

We are delighted to share the news that S5 Jack T was named the winner of the final. Jack will now go on to represent St Aloysius’ College at the SYM National Final at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in May. This is a significant accomplishment and one of many musical successes Jack has celebrated this year. Remarkably, he arrived at Sunday’s final fresh from winning the prestigious Gilbert Innes Prize for Brass at RCS Juniors the day before.

Jack’s dedication, discipline, and love for music are evident in all that he does, and we are incredibly proud of his continued success. His achievements are a testament to the strength of the Music Department at the College and to Jack’s own hard work and talent.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Peter Smith of PS Pianos ( www.pspianos.co.uk ), Paisley, who generously provided a beautiful baby grand piano for this special event. Peter has been a great supporter of the College, and we are especially grateful for his ongoing generosity which has already had a transformative impact on our students' learning and performance.

Congratulations to all the young musicians who took part in the final—and especially to Jack—for making this a truly memorable occasion.
