The Schola is a choral programme unique to St. Aloysius’ College. It offers the highest standard of musical training, fostering skills in singing, sight reading and performance, whilst developing discipline, teamwork and confidence. It provides a sense of community (The Schola Family) and helps form close friendships.
Pupils from P4-P7 have the opportunity to audition for either the girls’ Puellarum or the boys’ Puerorum – two of the four Schola choirs in the College. Every chorister who is part of the programme receives a weekly group singing lesson with the Director of Choral Music, Ann Archibald. It is very much the hope that joining the Puerorum and Puellarum will be the beginning of a choral music journey that will continue until S6.
Both Schola choirs sing in Junior School Liturgies in Church and sing some Sunday Masses in St. Aloysius' Church at 10am (approximately 2 per term). They also visit Parishes around Glasgow as part of an outreach programme to promote the work of our Jesuit school.
Recent trips include singing Mass in The Church of the Sacred Heart, Edinburgh, performing in Edinburgh Castle and singing Choral Evensong in St George’s Chapel , Windsor Castle, which they will do again in 2027.
Junior School Choir
The Junior Choir is by far the largest choir in the College, currently hosting 90 pupils from Primary 5-7. Our young people have the option to join this choir and rehearse every Friday morning. This is an award-winning choir who compete every year at the Glasgow Music Festival and perform at various events throughout the year.
Infants Choir
In the Infant department, Primary 1 and 2 make up the St Aloysius’ College Infant Choir. The choir sings a range of fun songs and the boys and girls work towards competing at The Glasgow Music Festival. The infants' choir is a great way to inspire our children to sing.
Training Choir
Pupils from Primaries 3 and 4 have the option to progress into the Training Choir. The Training Choir sings a range of musical styles and is a competitive choir who also perform at events such as our annual Christmas Carol Service.
