Aidan earns Third Victory on International Tennis Tour

St Aloysius’ College Tennis player, Aidan McHugh of S4, earned his third victory on the International Tennis Federation’s Junior Circuit last week, winning the Boys Singles at the Nike Junior International in Nottingham in convincing fashion.

15 year old Aloysian, Aidan McHugh, was in fine form during the first week of the ITF's International in Nottingham where he added to his two previous Junior Circuit victories, earned in Dubai and Liverpool Internationals at the end of 2015.

Beating French player, Marceau Courtalon, 7-5 6-4 in the final, Aidan’s victory in the 16-and-under Boys Singles at the Nottingham International was particularly convincing as the S4 St Aloysius' College pupil only dropped one set throughout his successful five match tournament run.

And with this third victory on the ITF’s Junior Circuit it’s clear that Aidan continues to strive for personal excellence on and off the tennis court and follow the Jesuit ideal of ‘Magis’: to do more and be more with the talents you possess.

Aidan outlined how the College has helped him follow his tennis dream whilst supporting his all-round education when he told his own “My Green Blazer” story for the St Aloysius’ College website last year, saying.

 “I think because the school encourages you to make the most of your talents it’s easier for me to dedicate time to my tennis,” Aidan said, “But I understand the importance of doing well at school. The teachers realise what it means to me and they help me fit my school work in around my training rather than the other way around.”

“The dream is one day playing in – and hopefully winning – Wimbledon. Who knows if I’ll achieve that dream but I’m having a great time trying and I’ll always be grateful to have a school and family that supports me in that.”

Aidan’s image also appeared on the launch booklet of the fundraising appeal for the new St Aloysius’ College sports facility which continues to seek contributions as the exciting new addition to our city centre campus begins to take shape.
