The senior rugby teams of St Aloysius’ College prepared for the season ahead with a ten-day pre-season tour of Canada where intense training sessions and soaring temperatures were balanced with sunbathing and sightseeing.
Towards the end of their summer holidays, 38 players from the U16 and U18 St Aloysius’ College rugby squads made their way across the Atlantic for a ten-day pre-season tour of Canada in a bid to start their season in the same way they ended the last, as arguably the best schools rugby squad in Glasgow.
Mr Tearney described the Aloysians as a ‘credit to the College’ on their return from the trip and they certainly earned that praise during first two days of the tour when they worked hard on strength and conditioning in hot and humid summer conditions at McMaster University. After two days of intense training the tour moved on to Toronto via the world-famous Niagara Falls where the boys swapped their Green Blazers for some red ponchos.
Both Aloysian teams enjoyed convincing victories over Mississauga in Toronto and were rewarded with a tour of Downtown Toronto and a meal at Hard Rock Café before spending the day sunbathing and paddle boarding on Ontario Beach.
After completing another day on the training field, the Aloysian rugby teams faced a tough test against Ontario’s provincial select sides where they fought hard and scored some great tries, then on the final day their efforts throughout the trip were rewarded with a fun-filled trip to the theme-park.
The College’s Director of Sport was full of praise for the players on their return and looking forward to another successful year for Aloysian rugby Mr Tearney said.
“The boys were outstanding. They played some really good squads and brought their A game in the matches and in training. They have been a credit to the College and we wish those leaving us all the best for the future. We’re all looking forward to the Scottish schools rugby season ahead and hope the hard work continues”
