Junior School Meet the Specialists Day

Junior School Meet the Specialists Day

Last week in our Junior School, we welcomed families from Kindergarten to Primary 7 to meet our specialist teachers who teach our children outwith their regular classroom. Specialist subjects open up our curriculum and allow children to discover new passions, and provide them with an environment where they get dedicated time to delve deep into a particular subject.

In Junior School, each of our pupils receives a specialist class in Art, PE, Science, Music, and Modern Languages each week. As they progress through the school, the curriculum changes to remain challenging and in order to help them better adapt to the way subjects are taught in the Senior School. This gives pupils a springboard for taking classes when the time comes in Senior School, and can often give them a more clear idea of which subjects they would like to study going forward.

The day started with a presentation from each of our specialist teachers, who took us through their curriculum and what children will be learning in their subject. Next, everyone got the chance to visit some of our specialist classrooms, where parents could see hands-on how the different subjects work. In Science, our pupils even gave a live display of some experiments!

This is a lot of parents’ first opportunity to visit the Junior School specialist classes due to the restrictions imposed by COVID. We are very thankful to be able to welcome parents to our Campus again – we love showing them what St Aloysius’ College is all about.
