Language Pupils experience Latin Culture with Carnival

Delight in Learning

The highly successful and innovative Junior School languages curriculum at St Aloysius' College aims to be progressive, challenging and fun, helping pupils find joy in discovering different languages and cultures , and this philosophy was clearly evident when young Aloysians of P3 and P6 took part in the College’s very own Carnival.

Carnival was organised by the Junior School language teachers to give pupils a taste of an Italian and Spanish tradition which is celebrated by Catholic people all over the world, marking the beginning of Lent the weekend before Ash Wednesday.

The young Aloysians learnt poems and songs about Carnival in Spanish and Italian and even prepared their own masks, banners and decorations for the Junior School Atrium where the lively festivities took place.

The pupils played Latin party games like Piñata and took part in traditional Spanish and Italian dancing before sampling special Carnival cakes which went down rather well.
