St Aloysius' Pupils Win Top Chemistry Award

Personal Excellence

Our pupils have been busy achieving 'Great Things' recently and the winning streak continues, this time in Chemistry at the Regional Final of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Top of the Bench competition at the University of Strathclyde.

Against twenty one other teams, Dominic Kono (S2), Noemi Thompson (S3), Cameron Berry (S3), and Charlotte Norton (S4) stormed to first place with an impressive score of 327/375, also winning Best Performance in Laboratory with 98% and Best Performance in Chemistry in the News Workshop with 94%.

The Top of the Bench competition is one of the Society's longest standing competitions and considered the most prestigious schools' competition. It involves schools from across the country participating in regional heats to qualify for the UK Final. Dominic, Noemi, Cameron, and Charlotte will now compete in the UK final next year.

Dominic commented: "‘Top of the Bench stands out from other competitions because it is a lot more fun and challenges you as an individual to become better at teamwork’’, while Noemi Thompson said, “It was a very memorable experience, I really liked the competition because it was so interactive and fun. I’m looking forward to the next round", and Cameron remarked, “Top of the bench was a very good experience that allowed me to work well with a team.”

Congratulations to everyone involved!
